Rudolf is a sweet little black cat that lives a sheltered life with his family in the Japanese city of Gifu. One day, he wants to undertake an excursion and lands in the cargo area of a truck, finally ending up in far-off Tokyo. Here, he gets to know a stray, Gottalot, who helps him find his feet among the alley cats. At Gottalot's side, an exciting adventure in the big city begins - but Rudolf's homesickness remains, and he tries to find his way back to Gifu. (Filmfest Hamburg)

The movie Rudolf the Black Cat stands out not only for its touching story but also for its surprisingly very good animation. Well, the Japanese certainly know how to make great 3D animated films, but they don't seem to do as much in the genre aimed at children. Or maybe it's not getting to us as much. A beauty to behold in places.
