American Horror Story - Kult

Watching Cult outside the US must be a completely different experience. I don't take the politicization of the series too well, but I understand the need to process this topic. And thanks to AHS, the Hillary vs. Trump contest is much more even, and the feelings of the people behind that choice are much more real. The general theme of matriarchy vs. patriarchy suits AHS, but the specific ideas are a bit debilitating. Did it really have to come down to Warhol and Manson? The breakup of not only the traditional family but the lesbian one as well? What about Twisty? Was his return useful? I am very uncomfortable with the acting of Chaz Bono, who has been with us since Roanoke. I'm rooting for a post-Trump US recovery, but I would appreciate a return to scary fiction in the next season. (02.03.2019)

Some of the bloody scenes left me quite disgusted, but otherwise, I must admit that within its genre, it is a relatively high-quality piece of work that appealed to me, especially in terms of the screenplay. It should also be noted that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are unwaveringly propelling Cult to greater heights with their performances. After the flop Roanoke, things are looking up again. I found the seventh season of American Horror Story competes with the previous season for the place of the worst one that has been filmed so far. However, most importantly, it is about a cult, and the danger of a cult of personality is pretty well depicted. Despite that, it is as if the producers did not know what to do anymore, so they threw in some weird family relationships, clowns, murderers, and madmen who were all lumped together in a narrative playing at being a crime drama. I had quite a few reasons to be dissatisfied. I'm not a fan of Donald Trump, but it seems cheap to build a whole season around the fight against him and his followers. Especially considering the movement which started among his opponents, in which men were judged without trial. This so-called democracy is not really that far from inquisitorial practices. As usual, I was extremely irritated by Sarah Paulson. As usual, Evan Peters’ performance was great, and one star goes to this season's surprise - Billie Lourd. (14.11.2018)

The most unpleasant season, and thanks to the absence of supernatural elements, clearly the most oppressive. I am still amazed at the versatility of the golden core of actors (unsurprisingly dominated by Sarah Paulson), newcomer Billie Lourd excels with every line she delivers, and the escalating plot makes me increasingly anxious as I wonder if everything is as black and white as it seemed at the beginning of the series. Despite the perfectly functioning tension and Ryan Murphy's typically snappy humor, it still falls a bit short of the highest rating. The level of violence and bloody scenes has surpassed the threshold where I can accept everything without hesitation, and there were moments when I involuntarily recoiled due to the images I saw, which was a bit much this time around.
