Na ziemi w ciągu wieków, niezauważone przez ludzi, wyrosły dwie rywalizujące ze sobą rasy stworzeń - arystokratyczne, dobrze wykształcone - Wampiry - Nieśmiertelni Władcy oraz brutalni i siejący grozę Lycanowie (Wilkołaki) - Rebelianci. Dla ludzkości ich istnienie jest tylko cieniem legendy. Dla siebie nawzajem są oni jednak nieprzejednanymi i śmiertelnymi wrogami. Ich celem jest całkowita eliminacja przeciwnika. W tej atmosferze poznajemy Selenę (Kate Beckinsale), wojowniczkę Wampirów, która dowiaduje się o planie Lycanów mającym na celu uprowadzenie człowieka - studenta medycyny o imieniu Michael (Scott Speedman). Śledząc go po ulicach miasta, Selenie udaje się nawiązać z Michaelem bezprecedensowy kontakt i kiedy Lycanowie decydują się na ruch, Selena udaremnia ich akcję. W trakcie akcji ratowania Michaela, Selena odkrywa tajemnicę, która może mieć śmiertelne konsekwencje zarówno dla Wampirów jak i Lycanów - plan stworzenia nowej rasy, która będzie posiadała zalety i siłę obydwu zwalczających się ras jednocześnie pozbawiona będzie ich słabości. Powstanie nowej rasy naruszy istniejące status quo, i doprowadzi do wzrostu znaczenia Lycanów, którzy od wieków są słabszą stroną konfliktu. (Best Film)
