In his career, spanning nearly fifty years, Paul Verhoeven managed to fascinate audiences time and again with movies in which the themes sex and violence play first fiddle. For director Elisabeth Van Zijll Langhout, Verhoeven’s first French film Elle forms the starting point of an extensive exploration of this director’s work.
