Moreno is a young naturalist scientist who travels to the Argentine Patagonia in 1890 to both establish geographical borders and investigate the region’s flora and fauna. During the expedition, his life becomes endangered: a group of Mapuches takes him prisoner and sentences him to death, under suspicion of being a government spy. Based on the journals kept by the surveyor Moreno, who founded the Argentine branch of the Boy Scouts and continued some of the studies of Darwin himself, filmmakers Zevallos and D’Eufemia reconstruct the events that took place during the geologist’s escape, and they do so following the rules of a western. The Argentine scientist will spend several days hiding from enemy shadows and dodging bullets while trying to catch some fish in order to survive. The open shots, with the big sky as a ceiling for this story, suggest an atmospheric counterpoint between the vital nature of the landscape and the anguish of the protagonist, when he hears the footsteps of those on the hunt for him.
