Lynch meets Kafka in the tightly woven world of an apprentice – a world within the world of his master. At 35, Akim has spent nearly half his solitary life tailoring his days in the service of others. Each day he meticulously stitches and fits suits for customers who stroll the streets of an outside world unknown to him. Possessed by an obsessive irrational fear of wounds and death, Akim does not live life to the fullest, nor venture beyond his daily routine. For him, each day starts as he rides to work in the back of a local coffee shop owners van, where he opens the store, watches TV, or naps at his sewing machine until his master arrives. And each evening he rides back home in the same seat of the van. Isolated for safety, the news of the world has little bearing on his life. But news that propane tanks in the trunks of vehicles may cause them to explode is news that will change his life. Forced to move above his shop to avoid his new fear of vehicles, a small change will be a milestone as he's exposed to a new world. In facing his fears, and facing death, he will finally become the Master of his own fate - and of a new life where light bulbs no longer flicker. (Internationales Filmfest Oldenburg)
