Marzec 1918 roku. Trwa I wojna światowa. W północnej Francji przebiega linia frontu, która oddziela brytyjską armię od niemieckich żołnierzy. Przebywający w okopach mężczyźni starają się zachować spokój i dobry humor z nadzieją, że wróg nie zdąży zaatakować, kiedy oni będą na służbie. Jedynie kapitan Shanhope (Sam Claflin) oraz porucznik Osbourne (Paul Bettany) czują strach przed nieuniknionym. Gdy do żołnierzy dołącza młody, podekscytowany możliwością udziału w wojnie Raleigh (Asa Butterfield), napięcie zaczyna narastać. (TVP)

Although there was no Rat au Van on the menu, I felt like watching Blackadder Goes Forth, only the humor was missing. If war is pointless, then the trench war in World War I was the quintessence of nonsense. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. I don’t think I can describe the strategy on both sides of the front in a better way. I was fascinated by the film mainly because there was hardly any action. What it offered instead was a great psychological probe into the minds of men whose duty sent them into a death trap. 4*+
