(Warner Bros. PL)

angielski I didn’t expect it but I had a really great time. The currently standard selection of contemporary comedy actors (Ed Helms, Jon Hamm vs. Jeremy Renner) was supported by Jake Johnson from New Girl and Hannibal Buress, who also both did a pretty good job. And this team, which of itself is pretty good, was incredibly outshined by Isla Fisher, whose competitiveness pretty much beat every single guy on the team. And then there is the premise itself which at first sight looks fairly wacky, but it works really great. This was probably 94 minutes of the best comedy entertainment from the USA in 2018. ()

angielski After Game Night, the second comedy notch and success from the USA, where excellent Jeremy Renner in one of his best roles ever. I like the idea, which is also based on true events, the five protagonists were good and next to Renner I enjoyed Jake Johnson a lot. There are fewer gags than one might expect, but the film maintains a funny tone throughout. Praise also for the great slow motion during the "action" scenes. P.S. I really wish Renner had his own action series. ()

angielski In this comedy, all the humour is based on people ramming into stuff in high speed or falling on their face. The film could tap more into the potential of the chasing theme – there’s actually more talking than touch and go. If, at least, the dialogues were worth it, but there’s just a noticeable lack of gags and the whole thing drowns with the scenaristic inability to create something original and entertaining. The fact that the storyline is just some necessary sauce to accompany the intended topic of a gang of lads playing a kids game is totally obvious. Don’t expect any added value. The only starring actor with a gift for comedy is Jake Johnson; the others just fake their faces (especially Ed Helms who has recently started to irritate me with his vain attempts to be funny). Centred around a similar theme and despite also being a comedy to unplug your brain, the recent Game Night is, at least, matter for laughter. ()

angielski Even though the premise of the film sounds incredibly silly, this adult flick still offers more than one scene that oozes humour and brisk action. A big part of all this is of course the cast, of which I was most impressed by the aggressively funny Isla Fisher and the unassailable Jeremy Renner. I liked that this was not just a straightforwardly told comedy, but a piece of filmmaking with more than one screenwriting surprise. ()

angielski Dynamic frat-pack fun that understands that the biggest mistake it could make would be to slow down. Given its ties to small-town comedy, we constantly find ourselves in obvious settings (a wedding, an office, a suburban house, a hospital, a golf course), but at least it admits that the characters aren't entirely happy in them, as they constantly revert to their non-committal high school years, whether through uninterrupted playing tag or drooling over their school crushes. As such, the film's most heated moment was clearly slapped on her dad's funeral. Otherwise, to list it off in points: 1) If Edgar Wright had made this, it would have been the movie of the year and fences would be toppling with glee; 2) I would have gladly tagged the insufferable dude Renner with the hood of a car; 3) The age gap between the female and male actors was minimized, but the girls certainly didn't look it, so it must have been an even more painful spectacle for female viewers in their forties. 4) The general use of female characters here is really odd, but that's probably based on the fact that none had much of a role in the real-life subject matter. angielski A perfect feel-good film for a Sunday afternoon. It didn’t put too much strain on my brain, and I had a really good time. In addition to a quality male cast, there was also Isla Fisher and Annabelle Wallis, which made me very happy. The character of the extremely competitive Anna Malloy was one of the film’s greatest assets. What I also liked was that the film steered clear of pathos or hypocritical moralizing. ()
