Life doesn't mean living. While the first two short films seemed more like superfluous, which would be more appropriate to put into the lost menu in the section of cut scenes on home media, this time I can´t deny that Black Out is successful even as stand-alone functional short story that approaches the world of Blade Runner in its specific way and expands it in a very interesting way not only in terms of breathtaking design and animation. It's closer to Ghost in the Shell (and not because of the anime adaptation) than Blade Runner, but that's another question.

The big black out of 22 is even more spectacular than I had imagined. Watanabe doesn’t mess about at all here. He paints the familiar gloomy atmosphere and lays on one action scene after another. A short that stands up by itself.
