Where are the days when Joffé was a skilled and inventive filmmaker? 20 or 30 years gone, perhaps. Forgiven is a boring and hopelessly dull tale set in apartheid South Africa in the 1990s. It says little about the issue, and to base it almost entirely on a conversational script between the two main characters when clouds of potential are lurking out there going unexploited – no, thank you, 40 minutes is enough.
