Following the death of his teacher, Chen She (Fan Liao) journeys to the martial arts capital of the world: Tianjin. To open his own kung fu school, he must first train a disciple and defeat eight of Tianjins fighters, a challenge that takes at least three years. Chen encounters the talented but dangerous Geng Liangchen (Yang Song) and after just one year the greatest martial artists are challenged. These battles could perhaps be a bit more action-packed, intense, and possibly a little more realistic, but I still thoroughly enjoyed them. In addition, the excellent stylization, both in terms of the setting and historical aspects, as well as the overall color palette of the film, added to my enjoyment. This is a movie that I definitely enjoyed watching and would gladly watch again.
