Eric Capadis (Cyrille Hertel), nauczyciel francuskiego, rzuca się z okna na oczach swoich przerażonych uczniów. Jego następcą jest Pierre Hoffman (Laurent Lafitte), który szybko orientuje się, że szóstka jego nowych uczniów zachowuje się w bardzo brutalny sposób. Niezwykle inteligentne i przedwcześnie dojrzałe nastolatki szerzą wrogość i strach w całej szkole. Nauczyciel wkrótce odkrywa ich mroczną wizję przyszłości i pogardę wobec bezsilnych dorosłych, którzy nie są w stanie ich chronić. Pierre zaczyna mieć obsesję na punkcie dzieciaków. Jego życie zamienia się jednak w koszmar, kiedy poznaje ich przerażające plany. (HBO)

Do not expect suspense or an intense experience of any kind despite the “thriller” label. The new teacher is only trying to understand the unusual behavior of a group of gifted pupils and perhaps to reveal a conspiracy among them. But they basically do not endanger anyone, they only perceive the ecological troubles of our planet more sensitively and are a bunch of chronic pessimists. School’s Out has a message and a clear goal, but the filmmaking is utterly commonplace. Two and a half stars. [Sitges FF]

A stifling French drama with children. The film opens in rather shocking fashion, with a teacher committing suicide in front of the entire class and a new replacement teacher arriving to take charge of an elite class of gifted students with cold minds, fear mongering and dangerous rituals performed outside of school. A very strange film that has its own edge, good actors, a philosophical touch, a chilling atmosphere and a tense finale, but still lacked something to get a higher rating.
