Genèse d'un repas is a visual explanation of the principles of comparative economy. What is the value of a can of Senegalese tuna, a French omelette or a bunch of bananas from Ecuador? Why do people in Senegal earn four times less than in France, whereas the average price of food products is twenty percent higher than in France? All these questions refer to the gap between the production and consumption of food. Genèse d'un repas is a provoking documentary. In his work, filmmaker Moullet gives evidence of having an acute understanding of the absurdity of the world. In an apparently light-hearted tone he explains the rather unfathomable economic structures that have led to the situation where, in a world where one billion people are starving, large food stocks are being fed to animals. On a deeper level of his elucidation, however, the bitter story lies hidden of famine and death. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
