A very protracted fall into drug addiction, made special only by cuts into the future, where we see older versions of the characters living a different life. This is intended to make the audience wonder how the young protagonists could mess up so badly. But the audience’s patience pays off and the dime-a-dozen “drugs are bad for you” story turns into something much deeper. And sad, bordering on depressing.
