A guy sometimes runs out of a shack into the forest – cut – he returns with a monster’s severed head
and puts it in his collection. The Head Hunter is a film without scenes that would serve as its essence,
something to give it flavor and attract viewers. It’s also a good demonstration of how important the right
atmosphere is for a movie. Because it is the only thing that the creators could have done with their
budget (or lack thereof) and what they succeeded in doing. As soon as they try to at least hint at the
main character confronting the monsters – while partially showing one of them – it’s pretty ludicrous.

I finally watched The Head Hunter after two years, and although the potential was much greater, it wasn't a complete waste of time. The film has quite decent visuals and only one character, a believable Viking with awesome armor, who hunts goblins and trolls and then hangs their heads at home as trophies. I liked the attention to detail, and even though there isn't much dialogue, the film doesn't get boring, mainly thanks to its appropriate 70-minute running time. The most disappointing thing about the whole film is that it doesn’t show any of the fights with the monsters, which is disgraceful considering the premise. Even though the budget wasn’t big, they could have at least included a fight with bandits or another Viking. At least the ending was very unexpected and uncompromising. Those who enjoy Viking themes or the game “Skyrim” might be satisfied. Story**, Action* Humor>No, Violence**, Entertainment***, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere****, Tension***. 6/10.

I think I can safely say that I've never seen anything like this. For a film with hardly any actors or plot to have such a perfect atmosphere, is something that hasn't been seen yet. I can't shake the feeling that even a single action scene would totally ruin the whole film. If I compare the Head Hunter with megalomaniacal blockbusters overflowing with pathos and CGI, this is a total victory of minimalism and quality filmmaking. P.S.: Since there was no attempt at taxidermy, staying in that cabin must have been a real challenge for anyone with any remaining sense of smell.
