Rosa Chumbe

Police officer dealing with paperwork, Rosa Chumbe's life is as robotic as her administrative work. She's neither too lucky, nor beautiful and spends her spare time drinking rum bottles and wasting money in slot machines, just like a zombie. Confronted with her repetitive bad professional performance (she either sleeps it over at the station or is late delivering her reports), her captain forces her to take a leave so that she can piece herself together; her last chance. A single mother, Rosa's daughter is eighteen. Sheyla is also a mother, and she doesn't get along with hers. The young woman foregoes her baby, so the self-destructive grandmother has to look after her, much to her chagrin. It's October. Those are the days in Lima to worship the Señor de los Milagros, patron saint of the city, among the solemn incense smoke and the mystical processional fervour. Because only a miracle can save Rosa Chumbe, whose miserable existence takes a turn for the worst as she is more and more alienated. (Gijón International Film Festival)
