Sex Education (2019)

angielski I'm writing my review after only two seasons, as I have no desire to watch the third one. The first season was quite okay. I had a few issues with it, but no big deal. When watching the second season, I realized that the series was intended for a completely different target audience, which I respect and I'll stop watching it before I disappoint all those satisfied viewers by spoiling the average rating. 4*- ()

Season 1 (2019) (S01)

angielski Although the season was very poor in terms of humor at times, there were some really witty scenes, as well, and I really liked the more dramatic shades of the story. Which is to say I was actually quite satisfied, and I will definitely watch the next season. ()

Episode 1 (2019) (S01E01)

angielski From the very beginning, it was clear to me that I would have to be in the mood to watch this series so that I wouldn't ruin it with a low rating. But today turned out quite well for me, my mood was excellent, and even though the first episode seemed a bit uncertain to me, I decided to give it three stars. I added the fourth star for the British English, which, unlike the American one, seems much sexier to me. ()

Episode 2 (2019) (S01E02)

angielski This time, I settled on four stars, though I have to say, the creators really threw me off with that whole collective vomiting thing. I mean, that's the kind of scene you'd expect in some cheesy American college comedy, not here. But thankfully, Grandma from the Rapid Deployment Unit swooped in and saved the day. ()

Episode 3 (2019) (S01E03)

angielski Just when I was about to criticize this episode, the creators proved they can whip up a quality script. Sure, there wasn't as much humor (though what was there hit the mark), but they delivered some solid dramatic moments without resorting to unnecessary melodrama (even though they easily could have). ()

Episode 4 (2019) (S01E04)

angielski After the previous, high-quality episode, this one slipped back to just above average. I would've enjoyed it more if the plot focused more on the almost therapy sessions and less on the cheap jokes. But hey, at least I found my favorite character — Lily is an absolute demon! ()

Episode 5 (2019) (S01E05)

angielski I was disappointed. Otis's best friend being gay? Cool, I didn't mind. Otis advising lesbians? Okay, why not. But then they added Jackson's moms and the subsequent proud fight against injustice, and I realized the plot was becoming too politically correct for me. I was hoping the show's theme would keep it from being so conventional, but I guess they just didn't have the balls for that. ()

Episode 6 (2019) (S01E06)

angielski James Purefoy is, in my opinion, perfect for these types of characters. He plays them incredibly convincingly. However, the episode overall didn't rise above average. I'm giving it four stars mainly because of Remi Milburn and Lily Iglehart. 4*- ()

Episode 7 (2019) (S01E07)

angielski One of my top two favorite episodes of the first season. It struck a great balance, avoiding excessive infantile humor and managing to be serious without too much melodrama The only downside was the church dancing and singing — it felt a bit too much like Prince Harry's wedding, and not in a good way. ()

Episode 8 (2019) (S01E08)

angielski The eighth episode came close to being one of the top three of the series. But then things got weird — a new character showed up, confirming my suspicion that while only 4% of people are homosexual in reality, in movies and series it's more like 40%. Plus, the sweater return scene was so ridiculously cliché that I just couldn't rate it higher. ()

Season 2 (2020) (S02)

angielski After the first season, I was generally satisfied. After the second one, it’s no longer the case. Sure, gays are obviously trending at the moment, but even if I dropped a hundred dollar bill in this town, I would rather leave it lying on the ground, there are more important things than money. I’m sure Aimee would understand me. I was also annoyed by the sometimes lame jokes, Ola and not enough Lily. ()

Episode 1 (2020) (S02E01)

angielski The episode left me feeling disappointed; once again, there was an abundance of juvenile humor. Even if the series is targeting a teenage audience, I'm uncertain whether these jokes would hit the mark. ()

Episode 2 (2020) (S02E02)

angielski The second episode brought a welcome improvement; the creators shifted their focus away from constant camping and delved deeper into the character development of Jean Milburn, whom I find quite compelling. Lily Iglehart also got more screen time, but it left me wanting more. I wish my favorite alien woman could have chimed in on the events more frequently. ()

Episode 3 (2020) (S02E03)

angielski Well, it looks like the creators have settled into their groove, even if it's not quite hitting the mark. The potential of the theme feels promising, but it's bogged down by immature humor. Maeve's character adds a dose of drama, though, so I'm curious to see where it goes from here. ()

Episode 4 (2020) (S02E04)

angielski The storyline saw a slight uptick, but nothing to warrant an extra star. As per tradition, the series ramps up the LGBTQ+ representation, but hey, to each their own. Call me superficial, but given the choice between Maeve and Ola, I'd pick Maeve without a second thought. Not to discount Ola's merits, but I've always been more drawn to women. ()

Episode 5 (2020) (S02E05)

angielski The storyline didn't quite hit the mark for me. Still, I have to hand it to James Purefoy; his performance rarely fails to impress. ()

Episode 6 (2020) (S02E06)

angielski I'm growing increasingly frustrated. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you the name of this town, but it's evident that there's no population boom in sight. The excessive political correctness, sometimes pushed to the point of absurdity, is losing my interest rapidly. With just two episodes remaining, I guess I'll have to tough it out... ()

Episode 7 (2020) (S02E07)

angielski I bumped up the rating a bit because looking for at least one thing the local girls' group had in common was hilarious. However, for it to earn a solid three stars, the dancing and singing in the church should have been omitted, and the lone atheist character shouldn't have been so politically correct in every aspect. 3*- ()

Episode 8 (2020) (S02E08)

angielski Lily's direction of Romeo and Juliet was an absolute standout - even for someone like me who isn't usually a fan of musicals. However, the rest of the episode was a bit of a letdown. The creators leaned heavily on clichés, with the bad guys experiencing sudden changes of heart, and the third season's big twist felt a bit too on the nose. ()
