Stary kontynent, koniec lat trzydziestych XX wieku. Niezwykła i kreatywna mała Bille próbuje zrozumieć zagmatwany świat dorosłych i potwierdzić swoją wartość, mimo braku uznania i miłości ze strony matki. Dziewczynka stara się uciec do świata swojej rozwiniętej wyobraźni, aby zapomnieć o troskach dnia codziennego. (HBO)

"Wings, size, and strength lift you above the clouds and you don't know that the grey dot down there is love." - Vizma Belševica +++ The creators managed to capture the innocence of a child's perspective on the world, which isn't always friendly to children. In conjunction with the beautiful poetry of life in the countryside, they allowed the viewer to glimpse into a period when the personality and mind of a muse-kissed girl were being formed. Little Bille didn't exactly have an easy time, yet she didn't give up on her dreams, and in the end, she became a recognized writer and poet. I can't help but think she would have loved this film inspired by her autobiographical novel. (80%) ()
As was mentioned before this is a Latvian carbon copy of Barefoot. What this movie offers is a beautifully magical atmosphere of Riga during ‘30s, equally beautiful countryside, a lot of attitudes and truths, insights into hard lives of people who had no idea that war was coming, a lot of positive moments of a child’s mind set which is perfectly portrayed here and mainly quality movie-making which Latvians are famous for. I liked Bille and am glad I was able to see it thanks to Cinemax and see the life of a lady poet that was nominated for the Nobel Prize. ()
