Delia and her grandmother, Nonny Ruth Hoffman (Doris Belack), host a festive birthday party for a grumpy Edna, who hates this particular day of the year. With everyone trapped due to a big snowstorm, Bright collapses from a burst appendix, and Dr. Brown and Dr. Abbott must improvise without a real operating room before the infection spreads.
