The town lacks a church, so the pastor preaches in a pub where he has to hide pictures of naked women for the duration of Sunday Mass, stop pouring booze and tip his hats (although no one really knows if it's Sunday)... Yes, it's a Peckinpah western. The main "heroes" who are not good guys, a shootout during which a small child dies... Typical Sam again. It's a pity that this promising start is followed by an hour or so of more or less boredom. Yet the subject matter is very promising, and the reason why one man, one woman and one coffin are stumbling across the desert to somewhere neither of them knows it is bluntly attractive. If any western deserves a remake, it's this one. Three stars. A successful film that marked the beginning of a great career. ()
