Such a film that has everything it should have. It is given its long duration, which may have become a little too bloated for Preminger. It is a war drama, it is at times comedic, it is about relationships, emotional, sad, but there are also strong heroes and a proper villain. Kirk Douglas is incredibly interesting in this regard and his character is simply great, especially because of how he played it.
