Elisabeth Moss stars as writer Shirley Jackson in this biographical drama directed by Josephine Decker. In the 1950s, Shirley is engrossed in the writing of her latest book about the disappearance of a young woman when her unfaithful husband Stanley (Michael Stuhlbarg) welcomes newly-weds Rose and Fred Nemser (Odessa Young and Logan Lerman) into their home. A thread of ghosts transplanted from the fashionable world to the intellectual family of a horror writer and a promiscuous professor. The film is unpleasant, contact-based, and actually too distant for me. However, that doesn't change anything about Moss and Stuhlbarg's masterclass.
