Romy Schneider made a lot of remakes in her early years, and here she made a lesbian classic originally based on Leontine Sagan. Like her version of Playing at Love (Christine), I perceive the overall work on these films as an awkward attempt to capitalize on an old quality in color. Even in this case, the modernization is not positive. If there is anything good about it, it’s the pairing of Romy with Lili Palmer, whose collaborations since Fireworks have undergone an unexpected and sensitive transformation.
