angielski The high rating of this shot is related to the fact that a well-calculated calculation works reliably and kitsch, which works with the sentiment and expectations of the viewers, is immortal... Slavínský's work was by the way the embodiment of kitsch already during the first republic. The film cannot be denied professional processing and a quality cast. But that script, oh my god, that story is incredibly silly... Overall impression 35%. ()

angielski An example of how Czech film used to be kind, naive, but simply enjoyable to watch. Mainly thanks to excellent actors such as Jindřich Plachta and Jaroslav Marvan. They are just superb and you believe them in their roles. It's just about how one person can improve, but it's so beautifully human and can touch your heart. ()

angielski A simple story about how a cocky and grumpy capitalist (Jaroslav Marvan) comes to enjoy life again among the poor family of the worker Fábera (Jindřich Plachta). The film stands and falls with excellent acting performances that keep sentiment at a reasonable level – especially the surprisingly civilian Plachta and the cute twins (that would the prefiguration of the Homolka twins? :o)). Marvan, of course, is also an adornment of the film, who was able to combine a misanthrope with a cutely sharp grandfather with a persuasiveness of his own. A sentimental film for contemporary witnesses that can be watched without a smirk... ()
