American professor John Holden (Dana Andrews) arrives in London for a conference on parapsychology only to discover that the colleague he was supposed to meet was killed in a freak accident the day before. It turns out that the deceased had been investigating a cult lead by Dr. Julian Karswell (Niall MacGinnis). Though a skeptic, Holden is suspicious of the devilworshiping Karswell. Following a trail of mysterious manuscripts, Holden enters a world that makes him question his faith in science. (Shock Entertainment)

The essence of everything good that can be imagined under the term horror. That is, if you think of immersive atmosphere, escalating plot, detailed psychology of characters and not so much about hectolitres of blood, jump-scares, ripped eyeballs, perversions on naked babes and the highest possible bodycount.

Night of the Demon is a precisely written, acted and directed horror moving that begins with a stunningly clichéd introduction of the characters and culminates in the absolute absorption of the viewer. The darkness, the mystery, the pessimistic curse on the protagonist and his struggle with his own belief in the non-existence of supernatural evil are the domains of this excellent film, which should not be overlooked by any fan of the genre. It’s not about the monster’s frightening visage, but rather the unease that comes with its believable existence. The effects with the monster are ridiculous, but they don’t do any harm to the overall impression of the film, which tastefully combines psychology with fantastical phenomena.
