16-letnia Steffi (Sinje Irslinger) właśnie kończy szkołę średnią i nie może się doczekać wycieczki klasowej do Paryża, gdzie obiecała swojemu chłopakowi Fabianowi romantyczną noc. Dziewczyna marzy też o wstąpieniu do policji, ale po serii rutynowych badań kontrolnych Steffi i jej rodzice stają przed wstrząsającą wiadomością. U nastolatki zostaje zdiagnozowany z nieuleczalny rak, z którym średnia długość życia wynosi mniej niż rok. Matka próbuje ze wszystkich sił ją chronić, a ojciec, protestancki pastor, kwestionuje wszystko, w co kiedykolwiek wierzył. Sama Steffi jest natomiast zdeterminowana, by żyć dalej. Ucieka zcharyzmatycznym akrobatą motocyklowym, który obiecuje zabrać ją do Paryża. (HBO)

In the end, it was surprisingly good. And that's mainly because the filmmakers did a great job lightening up something that is perhaps one of the most difficult subjects to put on film. The development of the parents' behavior is admittedly pretty unrealistic, but so be it, they were a lot of fun afterwards. But the main plus of the film definitely remains the main couple, they had great chemistry. What’s more, Sinje Irslinger is an interesting, fresh (at least for me) actress who feels like someone completely different in almost every scene.

There have already been quite a few films about seriously ill young people dying and coping with more or less sudden upheavals in life (The Fault in Our Stars, Love and Other Drugs, This Crazy Heart, etc.), so in this respect God, You're Such a Prick doesn't bring anything new to the table, and therefore it has to rely on the cast and building atmosphere, which didn't always work. The film works with both a serious and humorous note, and the transitions between the two succeed for the most part, but not always – for instance, the character of the mother and her inconsistent behaviour. However, I found the leading couple extremely likeable and was very impressed by the sequence with Jasmin Gerat. Last but not least, I must mention the lovely soundtrack. Better three stars!
