A great film with a multitude of characters, none of which are extra, and a sensational cast led by František Smolík, Eduard Kohout, Lída Baarová and Vlasta Matulová. I was particularly pleased with both ladies - Lída Baarová by the way she handles the dramatic position with ease and transforms like a chameleon from an ambitious girl into a mindlessly in love girl and vice versa, Vlasta Matulová by her very natural expression as a cute scientist in love. And in the same way Otakar Vávra managed to direct everything and to connect all the plot lines smoothly. Its catastrophic conclusion full of tension is breathtaking.
