Based on the 1927 infamous Steglitz Student tragedy. In the volatile era between world wars, two young men share a romantic view of life and its possibilities. They differ greatly: Paul, a shy poet, comes from a working-class family, while daredevil Guenther hales from the wealthy upper class. Rebellious and passionate, both boys reject their parents' empty world. They even create a pact: At the point when love fails them, they will end their lives.
