Dario Argento (b. 1940, Italy) gained fame in the 1970s with the brilliant thrillers The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) and Deep Red (1975), in which figures from the intellectual world clash with the worlds of terror and mystery in visually sophisticated compositions and to the rhythms of a spot-on musical score (Ennio Morricone, Goblin).
