María Cañas, cannibal and audiovisual iconoclast. She practices a “videomaquia” (militant cinephagia) which she introduces into clichés and genres in order to dynamite them. She runs Animalario TV Producciones, a creation space dedicated to the culture of recycling, to appropriationism and artistic experimentation. She has a very extensive filmography full of all kinds of distinctions, and in 2013 her work was the object of a retrospective at the Seville Festival. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art centres around the world, and mini-seasons of her works have been shown at festivals such as Lima Independiente, Mar del Plata, Márgenes, the Cinespaña Festival in Toulouse, the Jornadas de Reapropiación, Mexico, and in institutions such as the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, the Filmoteca Española, the Filmoteca de Cataluña, the Filmoteca de Andalucía and the international branches of the ICervantes Institute, among others.
