McG's feature film directorial debut, Charlie's Angels, boasts the biggest opening ever for a first-time director. The film debuted at number one in the United States with over $40 million at the box-office. It opened number one in thirty one territories internationally with total grosses over $250 million worldwide. McG also directed the sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, which went on to gross an additional $265 million.
Following record-breaking success at the box office, McG formed a production company, Wonderland Sound and Vision, which has film and television deals with Warner Bros. He has produced numerous successful films and television shows under the Wonderland banner, including The O.C and Human Target, for FOX Supernatural and Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll for the CW, and Chuck for NBC. In a feature film capacity, McG produced the thriller Stay Alive for the Walt Disney Company, which grossed over $25 million. In 2005, McG and Steven Spielberg collaborated to produce The Dan Finnerty Show, a musical special that aired on Bravo.
In 2006, McG expanded his creative identity by directing the drama We Are Marshall, staring Matthew McConaughey and David Strathairn. The film tells the tragic but inspiring story of the Marshall University football team who, led by a new coach, found a way to organize and actually win after a horrific plane crash killed almost the entire squad. Warner Bros proudly released We Are Marshall on December 22, 2006.
In 2009, McG directed Terminator: Salvation, starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. In the film, McG introduced fans new and old to the war that is waged between humans and machines after Judgment Day. Released by Warner Bros in the United States and Sony internationally, the film grossed $372 million dollars worldwide.
Wonderland Sound and Vision has thrived under McG's leadership. In a short time Wonderland has grown from simply a motion picture production company into a multifaceted media entity that has set trends in the way in which content is produced and delivered. From reinventing billion dollar franchises to producing digital shows for the Internet, Wonderland will continue to lead the way as a provider of film, television, music and new media as the entertainment industry enters a new age.
McG began his career directing immensely popular campaigns for The Gap and Coca Cola. He also directed over fifty music videos for diverse artists such as Sublime and Wyclef Jean. These music videos have contributed to the sale of over 100 million albums worldwide. Wonderland released the soundtracks Music from The O.C., which have gone on to sell over one million copies.
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, McG grew up in Newport Beach, California.
