Biografia

Ineke Smits studied the arts at the Art Academy in Rotterdam and directing at the National Film and Television School in England. Smits has been living and working partly in Georgia since 19 years.
She started to work as a writer and director in the early 90s and made several short and middle-length films, such as MONAS PLEN (1990), HOERENPREEK (1996) and DE WOLKENFABRIEK (1996). Her breakthrough in cinema was the festival hit MAGONIA (2001), awarded at Bogota Film Festival and Istanbul IFF for Best Film. In 2002 Ineke received the Nipkow Fellowship to work in Berlin. Two documentaries by Smits, PUTIN'S MAMA (2003) and BLACK GOLD UNDER NOTECKA FOREST (2005) got selected for competition of International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam.
