Biografia

Born in Bukittinggi, Indonesia in 1921, Usmar Ismail is generally considered to be the father of Indonesian cinema, and his entire body of work was directly engaged with the ongoing evolution of Indonesian society. He began as a playwright. During the Japanese occupation, he developed an interest in filmmaking. He began making films in the late 1940s and then started the film production company Perfini in 1950.
