Vittorio Taviani

After taking art classes at the University of Pisa, in 1954 Paolo (1931) and Vittorio (1929 – 2018) Taviani directed their first documentary, San Miniato, luglio ’44 (1954), which was banned by the censors. In 1962 they transitioned to fiction with A Man for Burning, followed most notably by Padre Padrone (1977), which won the Palme d’or, The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982), which won the prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Cannes, and Caesar Must Die (2012), which received the Golden Bear in Berlin. Rainbow: A Private Affair (2017) is their last film.

Locarno Festival
