Biografia

A pioneer of African cinema, she studied film in Moscow. She was Gilo Pontecorvo’s assistant for The Battle of Algiers (1968). That year, she shot her first short, followed by over 40 fiction films and documentaries. She explored black identity through the cultural, political, and social movement of Négritude.
