Homayoun was born in Paris and went to Iran for the first time during the years of the Islamic revolution. In 1993 he was admitted at the FEMIS direction department in Paris, and then decided to live in France. His short film C'est pour bientôt (2000) was selected at the Venice Film Festival, and in 2005 he directed the documentary L'Iran: une révolution cinématographique, a history of Iran told through its cinema, presented at several international film festivals. Tehroun, his first feature, was selected at the 2009 Venice film Festival’s Critics Week.
