Dolores Heredia

She was born in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. In 1986, she moved to Mexico City, studied performing arts at the UNAM’s Centro Universitario de Teatro (University Theater Center) and, later, at the Centro Internazionale di Studi Audiovisuali (Lugano, Switzerland). She made her cinema debut in 1989 with the short film La otra orilla (Antonio Diego Hernández), which received awards at various European festivals. In 1993, she acted in the films Desiertos mares (Deserted Seas), En el aire (On the Air), and Dos crímenes (Two Crimes). Her performance in this last film earned her the award for Best Actress at the Cartagena Film Festival in Colombia; with this same work, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress by the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas (AMACC, or the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences).

In 1999 her acting in the film Santitos (Little Saints), won her the Best Actress award at the Amiens International Film Festival (France) and at the 40th Cartagena Film and TV Festival (Colombia). She went on to participate in the films Ciudades oscuras (Dark Cities, directed by Fernando Sariñara), El cobrador (Cobrador: In God We Trust, Paul Leduc), Vantage Point (Peter Travis, American production), Rudo y Cursi (Carlos Cuarón), Enemigos íntimos (Fernando Sariñara), A Better Life (Chris Weitz), and Días de gracia (Days of Grace, Everardo Gout), among others. She also appeared in the American production Get the Gringo (Adrián Grunberg), co-starring with Mel Gibson. She attended the Berlinale with the film Two Men in Town (Rachid Bouchareb), starring Forest Whitaker. In 2014, the AMACC named her Best Actress for her work in Huérfanos (Orphans). She has acted in over 40 feature films.

On television, she starred in the HBO Latino series Capadocia (seasons one, two and three), a project that has garnered her multiple nominations for international awards. She is also a cast member of the series Hasta que te conocí, a Disney and Somos production, about the life of Juan Gabriel, playing the singer’s mother. She has been invited to serve as a juror at many international film festivals: Gramado in Brazil, Guadalajara (FICG), Guanajuato (GIFF) and San Cristóbal de las Casas (FIC), as well as the Festival de Cine y Medio Ambiente Cinema Planeta (Cinema Planeta International Environmental Film Festival).

Heredia has also had a long career as a theater actress and producer; she has been part of the Centro de Experimentación Teatral del INBA (Center for Experimental Theater at the National Institute of Fine Arts) and the Compañía Nacional de Teatro (National Theater Company), and she has appeared in numerous plays abroad. In 2015, she produced the Mexican tour of the international extravaganza La Verità, which combines theater, dance, music, and circus performances, inspired by the backdrop that Salvador Dalí painted to depict his rendition of the love story between Tristan and Isolde. That same year, she assumed the representation in Mexico of the Compagnia Finzi Pasca, a group with which she has conducted numerous projects. In 2015, she was elected president of the AMACC.
