Biografia

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters, where she studied English and Romanian languages and literature, alongside American literature, she took a sudden turn and decided to study acting. As soon as she graduated from her second university, in 2004, she started a prominent theatrical career on the stage of the National Theatre in Sibiu, as a member of one of the best theatre ensembles in Romania. She worked with prestigious theatre directors, both from Romania and from abroad, performing a large variety of roles in plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ionesco, Steinbeck and many others. For her activity on this stage, the Romanian Ministery of Culture granted her a Diploma for Excellency in 2010. While continuing with her theatre repertoire, in 2012 she made a sudden debut in cinema, playing a main role in Beyond the Hills, directed by Cristian Mungiu. For her outstanding performance in this film she received the Palm d’Or for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, gaining international critical acclaim. Though performing also for the stage and teaching, she is pursuing mainly a film career, performing in her native language, as well as in French and English, in international productions.
