Melanie Shaw was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She went to Santa Monica High School and then NYU. She is a founding member of The Collectin, with whom she made her first feature, Running Wild. On Shut Up and Drive, Melanie worked closely with leads Zoë Worth and Sarah Sutherland months before filming began, writing and rewriting scripts based on improvisational sessions the trio would have. The result is something that feels authentic, and that pulls aspects from all three of their experiences. She loves surfing, bikeriding and cooking.
