Platt first got involved in acting at the age of three, performing alongside his family in a local community musical theater program. Honing his acting skills throughout his adolescence, he landed the role of Winthrop in a Hollywood Bowl production of The Music Man and after being encouraged by a teacher to audition. This role served as a launching pad for Platt, by catching the attention of the Hollywood Bowl’s casting director, thus securing several future roles at the venue.
At age 12, Platt starred in the West Coast tour (which included his hometown of Los Angeles) of Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner’s musical Caroline, Or Change, directed by George C. Wolfe. Platt continued acting in high school, during which time he participated in several workshops and readings in Los Angeles, including those of Alice by Heart, a new work by Spring Awakening’s Duncan Shiek and Steven Sater, and Jason Robert Brown’s The Bridges of Madison County, with Kelli O’Hara.
