Necrotongue

With the first series, Brian Blessed also left, who I definitely miss in the series, but at least partially, he is being replaced by Miranda Richardson, who visibly enjoys the role of Elizabeth. The second episode perfectly contradicts the famous saying: "What you can do today, do not postpone it till tomorrow." Sometimes it is still worth waiting.

The story was easy to follow, the acting performances were quite decent, the dragon wasn’t one of the worst and, thankfully, there was no singing. I decided to give it four stars because it was simply hilarious. I absolutely didn't expect there to be so much quality humor. I was chuckling from the very beginning, but the tournament topped it all off (cheerleaders, bracket chart). I was satisfied.

The unbelievable happened! Czechoslovak (or rather Slovak-Czech) co-production has unexpectedly proven fruitful, and I finally enjoyed a Christmas fairy tale. It’s a shame that the creators sabotaged their efforts with an incredibly abrupt conclusion, in which evil gave up too quickly and everything turned out well so fast that the poor protagonist barely had time to realize he had actually found a bride. But anyway, it was clearly the best Christmas fairy tale I have seen recently. I don't count Angel of the Lord, that's a whole other level.

I really started to enjoy Edmund Blackadder with the first episode of the second series. Rowan Atkinson gave up his "bean-like" exaggerated acting and his hero began delivering sarcastic remarks, adding that typical humor that I find captivating. I had a great time and I'm glad that medicine doesn't resort to leeches for treatment as often as it used to.

The final episode of the first series did not evoke any great enthusiasm in me. As usual, King Richard was the best, but apart from him, the sixth episode didn't offer me much. This time, I didn't have an extremely fun time, I only laughed occasionally, and that's too little for this series.

Originally, I wanted to rate the episode with four stars, but then I realized that not only am I having a great time, but also that everyone who so easily accuses and condemns everyone around them without any real evidence should watch it. This goes for those who participate in similar campaigns like MeToo, if it's still ongoing. It's funny and enlightening.

The fourth episode was just slightly weaker for me than the previous one. I had a great time again, medieval politics were quite tricky on their own, but King Richard moved through them like a fish in water. Miriam Margolyes was excellent, when I saw her in the movie Stalin as Nadezhda Krupskaya, every scene of hers reminded me of the Spanish Infanta and it was perfect. Fantastic role by Jim Broadbent :-)

I found the lead actor extremely unlikeable. He recited his lines as convincingly as a tractor driver on TV news. I wasn’t pleased with Pavel Kříž’s wooden acting either and the representatives of Hell were the culmination of everything bad. Bolek Polívka was a very bad choice for the role of Lucifer and both devils were as if straight out of Zdeněk Troška’s films (not a compliment). I gave one star for the fact that it didn’t become the Pirates of the Caribbean. I still don't understand why fairy tales have turned into musicals with pathetic tunes and lyrics. One moment I’m watching a fairy tale and the next I’m suddenly watching a lame musical. Odd.

Because I have a similar relationship to the church as King Richard, I really enjoyed myself during the third episode, although it is true that Rowan Atkinson belonged to the weaker parts of the first series. Brian Blessed absolutely dominated that one for me. If I could ever travel to Turkey, I wouldn't dare to do it without him.

Truth be told, the humor was occasionally quite desperate, but nonetheless, I had a great time because Brian Blessed was in full swing, and his King Richard stole the episode for himself when he reappeared on stage. It's interesting to see how Percy and Baldrick are still just inconspicuous background characters :-)
