Necrotongue

I enjoyed the second season a little less than the first, mainly due to the character of Theo Galavan/Azrael. On the other hand, the other characters (and there were quite a few) kept developing, while some new ones were added: a number of mostly charismatic villains and even some mutated individuals towards the end. The best thing about the whole series is definitely the atmosphere. The combination of modern times and classic American gangsters really appeals to me. I sincerely hope I'll be similarly pleased with the third season. It would be a shame if the series lost momentum.

My impression of the first season is very positive. I didn’t read anything about it beforehand, so I thought it was going to be a Batman series. I certainly didn't expect Bruce Wayne to be little more than the “glint in the milkman's eye” as Edmund would say. It's basically a prequel to the Batman films, so the main characters are a long way from being superheroes and it's mainly the local police department that has to deal with the Gotham underworld. I enjoy the gradual development of both the positive and negative characters and I'm pleased with the cast and the now classic Gotham atmosphere.

Even the second season maintains the high quality. The absence of Wilson Fisk is noticeable, though. He is replaced by two new positive/negative characters, Elektra and the Punisher. Although the characters are well-written, they lack Fisk's charisma. What the show definitely doesn't lack is the ongoing character development, especially regarding Karen Page. As for the action scenes, I find the ones with the Punisher far more interesting than the fights with the army of dead/undead ninjas. I was also glad that Clancy Brown was cast in the series, even though he didn't last long. I'm looking forward to Season 3!

A well-made series. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect. I love the cast, especially Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. As the main villain, he outshines all the other characters and steals the show for himself. Plus, the action scenes are not frantically overdone, the characters go through interesting development and the whole series is surprisingly civil despite being based on a comic book.

Ice Age is past its prime and no longer has anything to offer. It’s like making tea and reusing the same bag for the fifth time. The animation is obviously still excellent, but the film just lacks heart, so I was utterly bored. I’m giving it one star out of sheer nostalgia.

One star goes to the excellent William Fichtner. Other than that, the film did nothing for me. When I want to see something surreal, I prefer David Lynch. The film might have had a profound message, in which case I apologize to the filmmakers because I failed to see it and I have only myself to blame.

If I were a constantly stoned fourteen-year-old, this would have been an awesome comedy. For me, it was a boring affair, starring a half-naked, hairy, chubby guy, who dies of constipation and then comes back. The film is notable for a lot of weed smoking and living in a pig sty, and it isn’t even remotely funny.

A two-hour travel documentary about Inner Mongolia, or the struggle of a wolf pack against the communist regime. I’m giving it two stars for the shots of fauna and flora. Other than that, the film was too long and dull. Two particular scenes made me realize that it was either intended for someone who has no idea what life outside the city looks like or for a person with an intelligence deficiency. Otherwise, I can't explain why the main character teaches the wolf to swim when even a rabbit or a guinea pig can swim without training, and why he believes that a single male wolf will take care of the wolf population in a steppe where there is not a single female left.

The film is chock-full of CGI, but that's about all there is to see. There's a lot of dialogue, but most of it is pointless. The action feels kind of stilted. The whole thing resembles a fancy meal that the chef forgot to season – it’s edible, but you won't enjoy it.

The X-Men franchise clearly beats the Avengers and its associated productions, even though Apocalypse practically lacks suspense. We all know who is to survive as they appear in the original three films. But the story does work, and despite its more than two-hour-long runtime I wasn’t bored and enjoyed the many great effects. I loved Michael Fassbender as Magneto. As for Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence isn’t and never will be Rebecca Romijn.
