Coś (1982)

angielski This is my idea of a quality horror film. Carpenter created an extremely intense atmosphere. The script works like Swiss clockwork from the first moment until the end credits. I first saw The Thing as a school kid on a second-hand VHS tape. The quality of the sound and image corresponded to a copy of an eleventh copy of the tape, but it lost none of its power. I have seen it many times since, and it’s a powerful experience for me every single time. One of my favorite scenes is definitely the testing of blood with a hot wire. My review in three words: cult, classic, awesome.

Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)

angielski An extremely compelling combination of a slow pace and a very disturbing character of a little Japanese boy who can fit inside any closet or corner of your home at night. Ugh, he scared me alright, the little bugger! An interesting concept for a horror film. You won't see streams of fake blood, but if you catch sight of something in the shadows with your peripheral vision, you might feel the urge to check that there’s really nothing there..

Byliśmy żołnierzami (2002)

angielski I’ll keep this short: a deep well in which any good idea is drowned in pathos.

Most nad Sundem (2011) (serial)

angielski An instant favorite. I like Nordic crime dramas, and The Bridge is the best of the best. The series has an excellent atmosphere, a well-written story, and suspense that just keeps building up. I consider Season 2 to be the weakest of the three, but still worth no less than five stars. I was very concerned about Kim Bodnia's departure, but Thure Lindhardt was able to fill his shoes and had great chemistry with Sofia Helin. I hope that the creators will get talked into making a fourth season. The best line of all three seasons: "Saga Noren, Malmö police"."

Eddie zwany Orłem (2016)

angielski The film could hardly surprise me as I had watched Eddie Edwards at the Calgary Olympics, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great film about a great man. I remember watching his efforts at the Olympics on TV. I couldn't help laughing. Interestingly, I didn't laugh at Eddie, I laughed with Eddie and the film brought that feeling back. You just can't dislike the man; I think he did more for the sport than many a champion. I had fun and enjoyed some nostalgic memories.

Pokój (2015)

angielski A quality psychological drama with excellent performances by Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. A strong story that surprisingly (and fortunately) doesn’t end with the mother and son’s escape but follows them as they try to cope with everyday life. This second part of the film made an even stronger impression on me than the first part, in which they were still locked up. The film kept me entertained, and the story completely drew me in. I wish there were more films like this.

Ralph Demolka (2012)

angielski Except for the overly sappy ending, it was a perfect animated film and it made me remember what a great time I had at the arcades. A real treat!

Zupełnie Nowy Testament (2015)

angielski Exasperatingly long and boring, with cringey humor, the peak of which is a male gorilla in the role of a life partner. These are exactly the reasons why I dislike French cinema (with a few exceptions). Plus, the film is purposely trying to cater to absolutely everyone. Luckily, I'm a cynic and I saw through it straight away.

Schneider kontra Bax (2015)

angielski Once something started happening in the film, I started enjoying it. There’s an interesting plot with an interesting denouement, but the intro seems to go on forever. The first half of the film is incredibly draggy and reminded me of Vietnam war movies (mud, reeds, mud, reeds, reeds, mud, reeds...) only without the war, so it’s really just long shots of Dutch mud. I'm not strictly an action movie fan, and I don’t mind films with a calmer pace, but there should be something going on other than just the rippling of reeds. The 3 stars are for the second half of the film. It could have been 4 had it not been for the unfortunate reeds...
