Necrotongue

The plot of the second episode noticeably lost pace and I was practically determined to settle for four stars this time, but the events at Lyle's party convinced me that the fifth episode deserves a piece after all. I enjoy how gradually more legendary characters emerge, who once caused restless sleep for people.

I quickly realized that this series won't be a horror, at least not the way I imagine horror. But that doesn't mean it's bad, quite the opposite. The creators managed to build a great, dark atmosphere and solid suspense already in the first episode. The plot had a very decent pace, the cast is truly stellar, and I was very satisfied after the first episode.

I don't know if it's because I've become somewhat numb, but this time I actually enjoyed it in some places. Louis' annoying mother is still in the series for now, but surprisingly, the newcomer Maggie didn't annoy me at all, quite the opposite. I even laughed at Morwenna's needle phobia, so I would rate it 3*+.

In the tenth episode, I positively rated the fact that the creators finally decided to eliminate some important characters, but the execution didn't impress me too much. The way they "chopped up" the battle with shots of what preceded it was alright, but those dumb visions and strange states of some characters got on my nerves. BTW- Halfdan's stupid ending, they really couldn't come up with anything better? He could have brutally stabbed himself in the stomach while shaving, for example. Oh, and I shouldn't forget, Ivar is really going to stir things up, I also have to check that out.

Yeah, yeah, I praised the previous episode and immediately I was duly punished. At one point, I had a feeling that I was watching Game of Thrones, where I also came across extremely fast movements through time and space. What Hvitserk demonstrated on the route Norway-France-Norway had to be the work of the gods, otherwise I can't explain it. And he still had to spend some time negotiating with Rollo and preparing the expeditionary force for the journey. And the strange coronation of Alfred? That was really a bad joke.

I surprised myself the most with my evaluation. I overlooked minor flaws because the creators obviously decided to try to return to what was good about the series. The pre-battle actions and the battle itself were successful, and I was finally satisfied after a long time.

After some time, I have again awarded four stars, even though it was not an episode with a frantic pace and amazing action. There was a lot of debate, but it was relevant. Bjorn found a new bride and I immediately enjoyed myself. Additionally, I learned how to properly castrate a reindeer and saw Floki trying to establish a communist regime.

The sixth episode was full of unpleasant surprises. It started with a local sandstorm, by local I mean limited to a single desert, so the whole area is bathing in sunlight. Floki is allowed to establish a religious community in Iceland, which makes me ecstatic, but Astrid topped it all off by randomly choosing a messenger from the enemy camp to deliver a message to Lagertha, and he subsequently completes the assigned task, which was a brilliant move. Just in time, Bjorn reappears... When I think about how the Vikings started, I feel sad.

I was completely baffled by the development of the story again. How did Floki, the one-eared goat, make it from Iceland to Kattegat without any problems? Oh, I know, it's the gods. I've never claimed to be a great war tactician or strategist, but I definitely wouldn't come up with something as stupid as Ivar. I wonder if any renowned mathematician could calculate how many Vikings can squeeze through a narrow opening before someone simply cuts off every protruding head? Pathetic.

In the fourth episode, I was more pleased with the events in Norway, where new intrigues began to emerge in Kattegat and Vestfold over time. Bjorn's storyline didn't interest me at all, and I'm not sure if the gradual expansion of the plot across Europe and possibly beyond is beneficial.
