Necrotongue

A very interesting film about the complicated beginning of the British-Japanese friendship. The film’s assets include a strong theme and a good cast. The writing, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. The theme had a lot more potential, but I still think it is a film worth watching, and I appreciate that the filmmakers didn’t get carried away and turn the film into another Saw sequel. I also liked the smooth transitions between the past and present and the fact that the film focused on the psychological effects of the war rather than the war itself like The Great Raid.

Quite a weird film with a very good cast. I found the first part a bit draggy, but then I was gradually drawn in and enjoyed the calm atmosphere with quirky dialogue and sophisticated subtle humor. The film offers no action or suspense, but it does make you feel calm and relaxed, which isn’t half bad either. I cannot recommend the film to people who struggle with alcohol addiction, as it makes Tokaji too enticing to resist.

Another great animated film that wasn’t pretentious and didn't try to fool me into believing that it had a deeper meaning (no, I'm not talking about Anomalisa). It did make me laugh and reminded me that we need to help each other, even between species. Both the animation and the story were great. The older I get, the more enjoy a good animated film.

A film whose main character was really close to my heart. It did have one gaping logic hole, though. I don't believe it is possible for a person with only one functioning limb to take care of himself without help, let alone get up from the bed into a wheelchair, and get dressed in less than two minutes. The theme, writing, direction and cast were all perfect, and I was happy with how it was all handled. The film had no action or suspense, the pace was slow (but not lazy) and it made me feel calm and relaxed, without a cheap appeal to the emotions.

I'm certainly no rich capitalist, but even as a complete loser and a charity case, I don't adhere to the notion that wealth should be distributed equally to everyone without discrimination, even to those who hate work with a passion. If a bunch of activists stormed into my place saying that a computer, a Play Station, and an XBOX are too much for one person and I should share them with, say, a poor refugee family, I'd probably lose it. By that, I mean that the film’s premise wasn’t exactly close to my heart. That clichéd and hackneyed song that took up the whole ending was grating on my ears, and I didn't believe the resolution of the love triangle for a second. Yet, I’m giving three stars for Niki Lauda and Sophie Scholl’s performance.

A feel-good action-romance about a professional hitman and a semi-professional suicide. I don't mind romance as long as it's not overdone to the point of melodrama, and this film handled it quite well and it didn’t lack humor. The action scenes, although there weren’t many of them, were shot with precision. An enjoyable film.

Made in the same year as A Bug's Life, but a few notches better. At least as far as I’m concerned. The bugs have the correct number of legs, the film has a much better story and Woody Allen has perfectly transferred his neurotic personality onto the main character. Unlike A Bug’s Life, which felt hasty and half-baked, Antz seemed more compact and professional, which is obvious given the cast.

An interesting film about four assassins and a police officer who hires them in a very peculiar way. In the beginning, the film drew me in completely and I thought it would keep my full attention until the end, but about halfway through, during the performance of Hamlet, it got slightly boring, only to pull me back in again. If it wasn't for the slow middle part, I would have given it five stars.

A very intense film about people with an expired warranty and how the state treats them. As I have first-hand experience with this subject, it is very close to my heart and the writer and director have handled it really well. I'm pleased to see that Matthew McConaughey, after all the disasters he's been in, is back to proper acting, further exemplified by True Detective. An excellent film with a very depressing atmosphere and no unnecessary melodrama. Exactly what I needed.

The shots of breathtaking scenery from various locations around the world had no particular effect on me. I get plenty of that in my mailbox. What I did like was how Walter became catatonic when daydreaming. That’s exactly what used to happen to me at work whenever there was a moment of inactivity, I even used to turn into a pilot. Ben Stiller has made an absolutely feel-good film, which put me in a really good mood.
