Szczęki 2 (1978)

angielski The tension is there (I never had the wistful feeling of “What if a shark appeared now?", it just always appeared all of a sudden), the playful directing likewise, only the shark, John Williams (who saves the atmosphere), Roy Scheider and a few others stayed. Jaws 2 is just another film featuring a man-eating shark that can't equal Spielberg's unsurpassed original, but on the other hand, it's fortunately not completely moronic.

Piraci z Karaibów: Zemsta Salazara (2017)

angielski It's better than the previous film, but not by much. The gratifying difference is mainly that this time the creators really tried to come up with interesting and unique ideas, but unfortunately, they forgot about the story. They almost completely forgot about it. On the one hand, there is a great guillotine scene in the fifth Pirates, which feels like it came from Gore Verbinski's mind, a fine finale on an anchor and a few irresistible black-humor scenes (being elected captain, for example). On the other hand, there is also a lot of overly simple humor (tacky double-meanings as if from contemporary domestic comedies), which is unnecessarily predictable (you always know that a joke is coming), a couple of all-too-surprising twists for which I would most like to stretch someone on the rack, and for most of the film, Jack Sparrow's “humor" is supposed to consist of him being drunk like a dog, and therefore he behaves even stranger than normally. I liked Javier Bardem's villain, the central couple not so much... Geoffrey Rush didn't get much space, but he did his best. The music was desperately inconspicuous.

Začalo to karafiátem (1981) (film telewizyjny)

angielski A loose, slightly more comedic sequel to Kaviár jen pro přátele. Particularly Petr Nárožný and Jiřina Bohdalová excel here (mainly thanks to them the comedy swelled so nicely), and it is intriguing that Vladimír Menšík and the 21-year-younger Jitka Molavcová are a beautiful couple, and how much the civilian position suits Lubomír Lipský. But even Iva Janžurová and Josef Somr (and his skoba) are great.

Bellevue (1969) (film telewizyjny)

angielski Rudolf Hrušínský stunningly portrays a bad actor who doesn't know he's bad and acts as good as he can, even though it's not very good, and when the audience rejects his miserable performance, he can't figure out what is going on. He thinks his character is affecting them so strongly. It's a very good production, but there are few people in the lead role that would make it that way.

Team Thor (2016)

angielski Well… I hope Thor: Ragnarok will not attempt this kind of humour. It is funny with the vampires of What We Do in the Shadows, but it doesn’t mean that it will always work. Compared to the Thor that Kenneth Branagh introduced in the first film, this Asgardian looks like an idiot.

Obcy: Przymierze (2017)

angielski This equal or slightly better sequel to Prometheus, which I also liked, pleasantly surprised me several times. Since I'd only seen about one trailer, I really had little idea of the plot, so I simply let myself be invited to explore another planet, from which another signal came and where something hungry was apparently lurking... So the true alien basis was there, spiced up with something new from the mythology, and especially an interesting idea about how and why someone can rebel against their creator. Ridley Scott shot it all brilliantly, and Michael Fassbender’s performances are both excellent.

Podezření (1970) (film telewizyjny)

angielski It's about people. About the ordinary ones who find themselves under pressure and then it is shown who they really are. So, of course, don't expect anything good - apart from riveting performances and a brilliantly chilling script. After a few minutes I was convinced that I wasn't in the mood for such a film today and would watch it another time - but then it sucked me right in and gave me no choice. As soon as Rudolf Hrušínský began to demonstrate the illustrative cross-examination to Vlastimil Brodský, I couldn't help but watch to the end.

Król Artur: Legenda miecza (2017)

angielski A great fantasy blast that honors the Arthurian legend, but at the same time does absolutely whatever it wants with it. It adds monsters, it shows Arthur as a gangster from London (Londinia, in fact), thanks to Ritchie's direction and Pemberton's great music, it's extremely polished and stylish, and thanks to the actors it's likeable as hell... And above all, it is also quite funny, which the trailers unfortunately concealed, God knows why. Don't say you expected an ordinary film from Guy Ritchie.

Strażnicy Galaktyki vol. 2 (2017)

angielski It was successful. True, once Kurt Russell’s character is introduced, at least the somewhat knowledgeable viewers will miss one surprise, but not that it would particularly matter - there are still quite a few surprises left. Once again, Guardians of the Galaxy is all about entertainment, and this time they mix it with compelling personal stories and, during the finale, believable emotions, which makes you feel like you're not just watching an ordinary sequel that has to have more to it, but rather just a good movie. Although it may be obvious to some, I would highlight, in addition to the script, the special effects, which again incredibly rejuvenated one actor, and again a great song choice - I could probably watch the scene with “My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison all the time.

Nocny recepcjonista (2016) (serial)

angielski I think an hour and a half movie would have said the same thing, maybe even a little more, and would have been more entertaining. Here, in six hours, the plot just boiled over unnecessarily (but that's the problem I have with most of the series I mysteriously get into) and I had to wonder almost constantly how stupid some of the characters were.
