What I like about the Sherlock Holmes stories is that even the ones that don't have a completely surprising ending have a compelling point, and in The Man with the Twisted Lip is such a human one. On top of that, Holmes and Watson are great from the beginning of the episode to the end.

Well, yes, perhaps every viewer will soon see that "it was different". But how? That's for Sherlock Holmes to figure out.

This case has everything: a mysterious manor, the enigmatic past of its inhabitants, a very ugly death, a treasure, love… And, of course, an initially gloomy and grumpy Holmes, who, after a wonderfully manic phase on drugs, becomes that dogged, obviously having fun detective-cum-consultant again.

"You'll never catch a monkey like that." - "Have you ever caught a monkey?" - "Have I ever...! Lady, you'd be surprised." The Son of Kong is such a pleasantly lightened afterword to the original story - lightened perhaps in every way from the naive story through the unnecessarily childish behavior of the title monkey to the humor and fights with monsters, which are actually not very exciting, but "only" perfectly animated. I didn't even mind that they didn't arrive on the island until the middle of the film, because until then Robert Armstrong in particular was a joy to watch. However, the ending was 100% successful.

A very well made but increasingly worse film as time passes. Alas. I was looking forward to it, and I can't say that I didn't get to see some good scenes (nothing beat the helicopter attack) and ideas, but somewhere after about half an hour the script got into a rather annoying loop of "period song - walking - monster appears - battle/escape - period song - walking - monster appears," very strange situations and scenes (the ship) and most of all I didn't care about almost any of the human characters. Why would I, when most of them were completely useless (Tom Hiddleston, for example, just walks through almost the whole film and doesn't do anything extravagant), unused (John Goodman, unfortunately) or downright annoying (John C. Reilly)... Seriously a shame. I wasn't expecting a second Godzilla, but at least some good fun.

Another superb episode. Holmes's infectious enthusiasm for the case, played so perfectly by Jeremy Brett, is a must-see.

Holmes is back... And unlike, for example, the Russian adaptation of this story, it's great that there is no long wait, and when there is a wait, the wait doesn't matter, because Watson pulls it off on his own. The reunion is touching, the joy of both heroes is palpable, and I wouldn't have noticed that the doctor is played by another actor if I hadn't known it in advance.

Still a nice family film in the best sense of the word (it has something for everyone) with fantastic visual effects, nice humour and beautiful music by Horner, which makes the ending really touching.

Everything is fine, I didn't notice any long-winded beginning or delaying flashbacks. Montgomery Clift is at his best, and so is Gregory Peck, he's utterly convincing. The story gradually gets muddied and I really didn't dare to guess how it would turn out.

It was spoiled by the unnecessarily vulgar Professor X... After all, greater accessibility doesn't necessarily mean that even such a dignified character, who certainly has dignified scenes in the film, suddenly starts speaking in such a rough way. But otherwise I'm satisfied. The acting and filming (especially remembering Mangold's previous Wolverine) is excellent, and the fight scenes are up there with the best ones involving Bryan Singer's Wolverine - they're just bloodier, which isn't a bad thing, although I'm not one of those who "missed it all along". I also liked that the trailers (which didn't particularly excite me) didn't reveal everything, and Logan has quite a few trump cards up its sleeve.
