The Life Aquatic is a charming film, but you need to be in the right mood. And I was today.

“I'm going with the Gestapo boss to Lublin. You know that I will be incognito!" A very good comedy and I believe that it entertained the British, because Schweik is almost a universal character and that fact that he is a cunning resistance fighter playing an idiot wasn't lost on anybody. Karel Lamač certainly saw to it that everything was just right in the story - Hašek, Czechness, Britishness... The final scene with the presumptive Russian paratrooper in the sail of the United Dairy (and especially his interrogation) has everything in it, and not even 'Allo 'Allo! could be ashamed of it.

A big film (not only, though mainly) for big kids. Although I tried to tame expectations, I was looking forward to it immensely anyway... In the end, I got even more than I could ever hope for. You can't even say that Ready Player One is full of references and innuendo, because it's one big reference or Easter egg, if you will. If you belong to those people who, when watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit, paused individual scenes and then looked for all the cartoons present in the picture, this time you are probably going to pause all day. But it's not, of course, just about references. Steven Spielberg, above all, has made a tremendously entertaining film that arouses unadulterated enthusiasm if the viewer is attuned to the right wave, and I hope that there will be many such viewers. It is still faithful to the book - despite the large number of changes, the heart is there, and the film's message is, I think, even better than that of the book, because it's not so overly complicated.

I haven't seen a new film in a long time that plans to “just" entertain audiences and that is successful at it. Pacific Rim is more than a good sequel, compared to the first installment even more lighthearted, in which very crazy things happen roughly in the style of any Independence Day, but for those who buy into the game, they have to acknowledge that the creators play it really well with them. I would say they really took seriously five minutes at most, the rest is sheer kid's fun and playfulness with bombastic special effects and imaginative action scenes to which, for example, the last idiotic Transformers or similarly silly Power Rangers can only look up admiringly. That all this takes place in Asia is obviously fine given the genre, so please, to all those who whine about something in the film - stop whining.

I didn't know the actors, the only thing I knew about the director was that she was killed by Johnny Cash in an episode of Columbo... It doesn't really matter, though, because The Hitch-Hiker is a well-made noir thriller, almost Hitchcockian in places, that makes do with very little.

A superbly acted journey into the depths of a teenager's soul. Saoirse Ronan did a very good job of playing an insolent rebel looking for herself and for someone to be with, but without the counterpart of Laurie Metcalf in the role of mother, her Lady Bird would have only been halfway there. It's an enjoyable spectacle, not as quirky funny as Juno (it was similar to that film mainly through the father's jokes and the scene with the coach who was coaching the school theatre), but a little more melancholy... And, unfortunately, a little protracted towards the end.

A quality adventure film with the amazing Alicia Vikander, who does not owe much to gaming Lara Croft. She runs, jumps, screams and yells in anger and pain, jokes dryly, and she does not seek the viewer's sympathies too ostentatiously, but she all the more simply “steals" (if she doesn't wrap you around her finger during the opening fifteen minutes, then I don't know). The film had an almost intimate impression on me from the trailers, so I was surprised at how really sweeping it ultimately is, and I liked the fact that what I may have complained about in other films was ok here, because it was all so sympathetic (for example, the final wink to Indy's Last Crusade didn't feel brash at all, and that's saying something). There are some issues in the film (Lu Ren's fellow fighters), but this quest worked anyway, and the second film has a great chance to be even better.

Between comedy (mostly intentional) and horror (the aliens are really scary), there is a story that every B-movie fan is bound to like. Plus, there's actually something going on in it all the time. That it is naive to the bone? Yeah, that’s exactly it!

Terrible crap, in this regard, the film managed to almost perfectly imitate the idiotic series I had the misfortune to see on TV once. Of course, I didn't expect anything extra sophisticated since the return of the Power Rangers, but I thought I'd at least have some fun. Well, I was wrong. I probably only liked Brian Tyler's music.

It is a pity that Zdeněk Svěrák says during the evening that the Jára Cimrman Theatre was always mainly about humor, however satirical it was, but in the end he denies it himself when he gets into the mud of current politics and starts talking about the direct election of the president. I think the same thing he does about the same person, but it didn't fit for me even a little bit as part of the cheerful piety.
