No promo for the film intrigued me, which made the experience even more intense. Matthew López's debut is an absolutely brilliant adaptation of the book of the same name, which I haven't read, but I have no doubt it is just as excellent as the film. I'm glad to see that gay romance is no longer portrayed as just a bitter story, but with a sense of humor, love, and moral values. I'm convinced that when I need a pause after a long day, I'll watch this film because it has everything to lift my spirits, excite me and awaken my emotions.

Red, White & Royal Blue is a proper (rainbow) romantic film, and at times it feels more fairy tale than real, and it's not just because one of the main characters is a prince (on a polo-horse). But the film was really good to watch and despite the longer running time it didn't get boring. The plot is quite contrived at first glance, as the odds of a prince from one of the oldest monarchies in the world and the (multi-cultural) son of the American president falling in love are far from even 4%, but it was all the more important to illustrate how the two lovers and their families would (or could) approach such a (for many, tricky) relationship. I was hesitant about three or four stars, and may change the rating in time, but for now the film sat well with me.
