Billy Budduskey (Jack Nicholson), a hard bitten, wise-cracking, foul-mouthed, cynical, but professional Navy-man, given the loathsome job of escorting a very young sailor (Randy Quaid) to a military prison for a minor crime. A brilliant satire of American society in the 1970s. Jack Nicholson was already a great actor able to utter and perform all the sins of the world while we just watch him entranced. Randy Quaid is also excellent in his role of a young man giving up a life of freedom in an overall straightforward, well-scripted comedy that really doesn't pull any punches. ()
